FARMERS JOURNAL
A PARENT'S PRAYER
Author Unknown
Oh, Heavenly Father, rally around me as I teach, train, and guide
my children as they walk life's path to Your home.
Let me be understanding by listening patiently and without
prejudgment. Keep me from interrupting while they are talking.
Help me to remember to be as courteous to them as I want them to
be to me.
Give me strength to be gracious when they fail and seek their
understanding when I fail.
Help me to control my feelings so that I do not lose my balance
and fall into nagging or lashing out at them.
Throw a STOP up when I start to disregard or make unimportant
their mistakes; instead give me a WORD picture-promise of how I
can help them learn from the mistakes.
Guide me to discipline with instruction, coaching, and refereeing
rather than vain words and punishment, for no child is born into
this world knowing what the plays are, how to play them, which
plays to play, when to play them or when not to play them.
Prevent me from making my love conditional. I may not like what
they do, Father, but I must respect them as the valuable treasure
you gave me. I must measure using Your standard, not my own.
Enable me to grant them the free will of liberty by giving them
the gifts of grace-love, roots, and wings, so that they have the
spiritual skills necessary for surviving in the devil's world
honorably.
Strengthen me with Your Spirit and Your Word daily to live the
victorious life of truth and faithfulness. Challenge my children
to seek the same strength to grow daily in grace and knowledge of
Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Build me to be a worthy parent. You grant me only so many days. My
life is but a vapor trail. There is so much to be done.
In Christ Name, Amen (I believe it.)
WORD picture-promise: Parable of the Talents
Matthew 25: 21, his master said to him, 'Well done, good and
faithful servant, you were faithful with a few things, I will put
you in charge of many thing. Come and share your master's
happiness.' Proverbs 3:13-14, happy is the man that finds wisdom,
and the man that gets understanding, for the merchandise of it is
better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than
fine gold.
